Plenty of good things

  • 2013 E. Fuligni (Cottimelli) Rosso di Montalcino Ginestreto - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino (8/1/2015)
The first impression is Barolo colliding with Beaujolais. The nose is an amalgam of camphor, cedar, meat and bright raspberry fruit. Given time in the glass the wine really comes together. There are sweet, sour and savoury things all in the right dose. The finish is decidedly savoury and red fruits add an audible crunch.
  • 2013 Laurent Tribut Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (8/1/2015)
The nose is all salty sea breeze with a drizzle of honey. In the mouth it is dry, piercing and crisp. There are citrus fruits and a huge puff of chalk on the finish.
  • 2008 Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (7/27/2015)
Pretty, pure and perfumed. Has some dried flowers to the aroma along with red fruits and some smoked meats. It is fine and lacy in the mouth with good detail of cherry and cranberry fruits and plenty of geological matter. The finish has great cut.
  • 2004 Mauro Molino Barolo Vigna Gallinotto - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (7/26/2015)
Dense and deeply pitched with black cherry and blood plum fruits. It has some balsamic, sweet cedar, freshly polished leather and licorice notes as well as a little bitter chocolate. Structural elements are buried under waves of flesh fruit.
  • 2008 Domaine Cornu Aloxe-Corton - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton (7/26/2015)
Very much only mid-weight Corton. It has enough sweet, ethereal fruit to enjoy now and loads of mineral and earthy Corton things lurking just below the surface. The finish shows sneaky persistence.
  • 2004 Tyrrell’s Sémillon Single Vineyard Stevens - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley, Lower Hunter Valley (7/24/2015)
The palest of green colours. So fresh and understated. Smells of lemon curd, minerals and toast. Piercing in the mouth. Direct, lemon flavours. Great tension and cut. May live forever under screwcap.
  • 2013 Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (7/24/2015)
Really floral with engaging scents of rose petal and violets. The fruits is crunchy cherry meets raspberry. The wine has good rocky detail and performs above its level.
  • 2013 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin La Princée - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin (7/24/2015)
Fine and restrained with a faint whiff of citrus blossom and talc. In the mouth it is dense and detailed. The fruit has a sappy quality and it is compact and linear with terrific cut to the finish. You get a suggestion of aniseed on the finish.
  • 2014 Marcel Lapierre Morgon - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (7/24/2015)
So bright, fruity and juicy. Has jube-like red berry fruits and some redskin lolly action. It is fine and lacy with a sweet core and a stalky finished flecked with minerals.
  • 1994 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (7/22/2015)
Perfectly mature bottle of white Burgundy. On the nose there’s some white mushroom, preserved lemon, butterscotch, menthol, toast and mineral. It is full in the mouth with a creamy feel. There’s good depth of flavour and Corton’s strong mineral line is still felt.
  • 2012 Catherine et Claude Maréchal Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune (7/21/2015)
Luscious warm berry fruits on the nose and in the mouth. It has some earth and floral nuance. Below the flesh is good rocky structure. Beautifully proportioned and balanced.

Quiet night at home with the cheese and kisses?
Save some energy for tomorrow night.
BdM, Lamy, Fuligny, Marechel - a roll call of my favourites! And Tyrrell’s Semillons are the ducks guts!

That’s just a selection from the past couple of weeks Kent. Certainly keeping the powder dry for your visit tomorrow.

Sucking on a cheeky '11 H-N Beaumonts watching the Kangas give the Blues a touch up.

Cheers
Jeremy

Tyrrell’s had come to Melbourne yesterday. Tasted Vat 1 (semillon) from 2010, 2006 and 2004. So fresh and full of life. 2011 Vat 47 (chardonnay) was not a slouch either. The Balance and charm of 2011 Vat 9 (shiraz) was excellent. Had more exposure to them when living in Sydney. Will try and acquire a few single vineyard wines
