TN: 1976 Pomerol

1976 Chateau Rouget - Pomerol

On a warm summers evening, I fancied sharing both a white and a red with my guests. Pristine bottle, Popped and poured. The clear light cherry red body seems to be a red/brown on the rim. The nose of dry flowers and dry forest floor seems fully mature. The medium bodied mouthfeel is initially soft and gentle, though the weight on the palate builds up slowly and gradually. Fully mature and it did not fade over the 45 minutes that it took to drink it.

I’ve had a number older Rougets. Its surprisingly strong. Almost like Gazin in its ability to endure.

That’s great to see. What a lovely condtion that one is in, esp the label.

My pleasure.

I’ve had the '75 and '78 on a number of occasions - and it is a brute of a wine. Blind, I would never guess it to be a Pomerol.

Isn’t this property in the Moueix stable now?

Thanks Nicos - love your notes -

Thank you Thomas.
