I was very excited to try this wine and it reminded me of some of my favorite Etude Cabs, Black Cherry, Tobacco, some dark cocoa and mineral. Initially, I was a bit disappointed as a few hours slow ox had no affect on the wine. I then moved to the decanter and like some of the older Etudes I’ve loved, this beauty slowly revealed herself. By hour 3 the mid palate and depth had really started to fill out and the last half glass was outstanding. The additional air also revealed firm yet silky tannins that completed the package.

To me this wine is pretty young right now and if you open I’d go with 3+ hours in the decanter. The pedigree is there on this one and it’s a throwback visit to some of my favorite Cali wines of the 90’s and early 00’s. (94 pts.)

This wine really does need a lot of time/air.

Is this a solera style wine? I recently had a solera style CA Chard that was epic (Salinia Wellspring) and wish more producers would try things like this.

Dan- not sure what solera style is ??

A blend of multiple vintages. I looked it up on wine-searcher and it seems to be a blend of the '06 & '07 vintages.

Dan, no solera, but it is a confusing name. It is basically a 20th anniversary of Tony’s Napa winemaking. And his last vintage of Cal Cab before moving to Oregon.
