Wine TV - Somm

Just saw this announced for next year on Esquire TV:

SOMM (working title)
Produced by Left/Right productions with Banks Tarver and Ken Druckerman serving as executive producers.

Master Sommelier is more than just a title; it’s a badge of honor, and to earn it you need to be a wine expert in mind, body, and spirit – an achievement measured by passing one of the world’s most difficult exams. If you can pass it, you’ll be let into a club with just over 200 members worldwide and granted access to the most desirable jobs in the entire food and wine industry. “SOMM” (WT) follows six aspiring master sommeliers from New York, as they prepare for the Court of Masters Sommelier exam. The series will also deliver “takeaway” information for the Esquire man, like how to navigate a daunting wine list or how to engage a sommelier without sounding like a fool.

Wonder if there will be “takeaways” for WWB as well or just for “the Esquire man”?

The mere fact that there’s a perception that diners should be concerned with “how to engage a sommelier without sounding like a fool” points to a big problem with the show’s subject matter.

Esquire has been a great network for starting awful TV shows.

All they ever seem to play lately is Predator, Arachnophobia or Friday Night Tykes. No thanks.

What exactly is a wine expert?

Oh wait. It’s Esquire TV.

Esquire, AKA Cosmopolitan for Men.

How to drive your partner wild in bed!

Take this test to see if you’re doing what women hate!

Watch this show to learn how to appear sophisticated even though you’re a clueless idiot!

I can hardly wait to watch this show to learn how to engage a real live somm. Somebody who has an actual certification that says he or she knows more about wine than I do. Someone who’s been drinking wine for almost seven years now!

Then I hope they do a show about the best waterbeds and the best polyester shirts.

Ummm…???

There’s a movie called Somm, and a sequel coming out as well…so…yeah…

Not a working title if you ask me!

What a creative concept!
