TN- Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir 2011 and Von Strasser Diamond Mtn Cab 2010

  • 2010 Von Strasser Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain - USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain (2/28/2015)
Clear, deep, purple-violet color. Clean aromas, medium+ intensity, with lots of primary blackcurrant and berry fruit along with secondary black tea, espresso and spice. Dry on the palate, with medium acid and full fine-grained tannin. Layered and polished palate with bright ripe black fruit, tea and spice. Full and fleshy, well balanced, grippy and full on the finish. Straight forward profile- really drinking well. (92 pts.)
  • 2011 Clos Pepe Estate Pinot Noir - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills (2/27/2015)
Clear, medium ruby color. Throwing sediment. Clean aromas of medium-high intensity- lots of secondary dark earth and spice- mushroom, chamomile tea, damp soil, sandalwood, lavender, along with accents of fig fruit. Developing. Dry on the palate with medium-high acid and fine grainy tannins, medium bodied. Nice fruit intensity- leaning toward dark at first but brightens with food and air, finally showing red cherry, along with layered notes of tea, mineral, earth and savory spice. Rich palate, fleshy in the middle with grip and moderate length on the finish. Drinking a little bolder and richer than when first released. Very nice.

2011 was a cool year resulting in a long growing season. I am surprised it is throwing sediment.

Not a large amount Stephen- the wine was showing really well.
