In Pursuit of balance? By Andy Peay

Really down to earth assessment (this link was originally posted on Facebook):

My $0.02 on the “who the heck gets to call wine balanced” discussion (controversy).
Happy reading.

I thought it a nice piece, but I don’t agree that those monster wines don’t age. I think there has been enough time since 1997 that it seems clear, if you hated them young, you will most likely hate them with age. If you liked them and found them balanced young, you will still like them and find them balanced old. Of course, there are exceptions both ways.

Sometimes I wonder if back in the 1500’s there were people complaining that the use of corks was eliminating their beloved off vinegar and spoilage qualities in their favorites wines. [stirthepothal.gif] newhere [cheers.gif]

Part 1+1
Part 2 LOL

One thing that really stood out for me as true - young wines are dominated by their various components. Old wines worth drinking old harmonize so well that my notes are conspicuously brief, even if the actual experience is far more captivating.
