TN: 1997 Dom. des Comtes Lafon, Volnay Close des Chenes. High-toned rubber nose reminding me a bit of a 2003. This has got to be a textbook example of a problematic 1997 in Burgundy. Holding my nose and drinking, the character sadly carries over. Roasted with prune. It eases out after a bit, but I don’t think I can drink this – life’s too short. 75 points.
What was the provenance like? Any chance it had been cooked?

Sounds like every lafon volnay chenes that I’ve had. I remember a particularly unfortunate '00, although it was like splitting hairs between that and the likewise terrible '98. This is just a roasted, candied wine that is hard to reconcile with volnay.
