TN: Two Syrahs @ BBB..(short/boring)

We tried last night at BacchusBadBoys two Syrahs:

  1. WindGap Syrah SonomaCoast (12.7%; #874; 375 cs; www.WindGapWines.com) PaxMahle/Forestville 2007: Very dark color; very strong Rhonish/smokey/peppery/very spicy classic whole-cluster ferment/dusty some blackberry/peppery/Syrah rather complex/Rhonish nose; quite tart/tangy very strong whole-cluster/peppery/smokey/spicy some blackberry/Syrah flavor w/ light/hard/angular tannins; very long very strong whole-cluster/peppery/spicy/smokey some blackberry/Syrah rather pungent/dusty finish w/ light/angular tannins; the Syrah fruit seems to be subsiding and the whole-cluster ferment character starting to dominate; may not be going down a good path; the w-c gives it somewhat of a Rhonish character; a very interesting Syrah. $27.00

  1. Darby 50% Syrah/PetiteSyrah ColumbiaVlly (15%) 2011: Very dark/black color; very intense spicy/black pepper/smokey/licorice/plummy some blueberry/blackberry/Syrah slight earthy somewhat toasty/charred/oak slight Rhonish/chocolaty nose; very strong spicy/black pepper/licorice huge fruit/blueberry/blackberry/Syrah rather toasty/charred/oak flavor w/ some soft/round tannins; very long peppery/licorice/pungent/very spicy/chocolaty strong huge fruit/blackberry/boysenberry/Srah finish w/ some soft/ripe tannins; needs 2-6 yrs of age; not sure what the PS brings to this blend other than to dilute the Syrah fruit perhaps. $45.00 (vSC)

No BP today.
