2001 Cellole Chianti Classico Riserva

A good friend gave me this bottle a few years ago. It had been #54 on WS Top 100 list for 2004. I waited ten years to open it, given my experience with Italian wines. It had a near perfect balance of acid and still lively fruit. A bit of cigar box and a nice smoky palate with hints of black fruit, licorice, and nice, silky tannins. Strong black fruit on the nose with a long, tangy red fruit tinged finish. One of the best Chiantis I’ve had the please of drinking.

Thanks for the note, good to know as I have a couple older ones. We stayed a week at the vineyard outside of Castellina some years ago, what a great place.

I also have a couple of the 2001’s left and I’m glad to hear it is still drinking well. I might open one up this weekend! We had our first on our honeymoon in 2004 at a restaurant in Siena.
